Guts Pie Earshot, The Omedas & The String Stranglers @ Bahnhöfli, Biel – CH – 17.03.2019

As usually we were drinking our after work beer at our local Tiki Bar and suddently a poster appeared infront of us. Guts Pie Earshot live in Biel. Of course we had to go.

Few days later the concert took place at a super cool location, Bahnhöfli. It’s actually a squat occupied since 2016. They are also offering workshops, such as wood/metal-work, bicycle, screen printing, etc. and there is a venue and a practice space and even a library in the garden. You get beer there for the price you want to pay,  with a minimum of 2 CHF. I was very happy to discover this place. The people were cool and very friendly.

First to play were The String Stranglers, a band from Bern. The concert took place in the basement. They play  “Muddy Folk” – Irish-American Gipsy-Folk with bluegrass influences and a big portion of punk. Wild, loud and freely interpreted folk melodies with acoustic instruments.

Upstairs, after the first gig, played The Omedas. Apparently they should have played with a drummer but he had some car problems so he wasn’t there. Anyway these two were more than amazing. We are very glad that we’ve discovered them. They describe themselves as “a traveling experience. Encompassing world rhythms, east meets west violin, and folkloric storytelling, the music takes you on a journey. With Andrea Burggraf and Max Quinones leading the charge, their original music and interpretations of traditional folklore bridge cultures, taking bits of inspiration from the sounds of western, swing, gypsy, rumba, and latin creating a fusion that comes together to make the sound unique to Andre and the Omedas.” Or just check them out on our video and their page.

Finally, in the basement, the legendary Guts Pie Earshot. If you do not know them yet, we strongly invite you to check out their page and especially see them live somewhere. And of course check out our video of this gig.
