On the weekend 18-20 september, at the arts and culture free state of Odonien took, for the second time, the Robodonien festival place.
More details about the programation and artists here: www.robodonien.de
Many european artists showed again their cinetic objets made from old metal, a lot of performances and concerts took also place in this apocaliptic environement.
I must say that at my big dissapointment, most of the objects and performances were the same or very similar as last year, so a bit borring for me.
But one thing was really different, the best, funniest and most interessting performance and object was the Barbie-Que. It was made and performed by a team from the Netherlands. They were really great and original. Check out their web page: www.zorbot.nl
I used the occasion to fullfill my hunger and ordered a Ken à la minute:
Yum yum! ;o)
Musicaly, as last year the Roboband with Stickboy (drums) played as well:
Odonien in Cologne, the site of the artist Odo Rumpf, a very interesting place with a post-apokaliptic atmosphere. Not so easy to find on foot, if you were not there yet, but it is almost next to the famous Pasha Bordello: o)
Jim Whiting, known for his work in the video “Rockit” by Herbie Hancock and his machine theater “Unnatural Bodies” was the art director and curator of the event.
The mix between technology and art, the use of different elements like fire, water, light, music, brought the whole area into a futuristic à la Dino Crisis art object, where you could imagine yourself beeing a Starfighter, if you like. 😀
Everywhere you could see rusty scrap, art objects and whatever lying around … and strange noises came from all sides around … That were the robots 😀
Unfortunately I only had time for the last day, so I was only there for coffee and cake with the robots. I had hoped somehow to have a nice coffee with some robots and form a conversation circle to talk about “Linksgewindschiffschraubenmuttern”, but only beings in flesh and blood were at the bar and the benches …
The robots had a great and amusing time… here some photos:
